Estonia-China Parliamentary Group will visit China with their Baltic colleagues A five-member delegation of the Estonia-China Parliamentary Group will visit the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of the National People’s Congress of China from 23 August to 1 September. The Estonian delegation will be joined by their colleagues from Latvia and Lithuania. This is the first parliamentary group level visit to China.

The Chairman of the Estonia-China Parliamentary Group Helmen Kütt describes the Estonian-Chinese relations as great, with success stories in trade as well as cultural exchange and education. “We will discuss ways for improving Chinese-Baltic relations even further with members of the National People’s Congress of China. Visiting together with the Latvians and Lithuanians gives our cooperation more weight,” Kütt said.

The Vice-Chairman of the Group Dmitri Dmitrijev said that economic affairs and innovation will probably garner a lot of attention.

“One certain topic will be the Belt and Road Initiative, or the new Chinese Silk Road, and the investments made into Europe through this, like by creating rail connections.”

He added that the Riigikogu delegation will definitely wish to discuss a very important avenue for Estonia, which is linked to developing e-commerce.

The delegation of the parliamentary group also includes Sven Sester, Jaak Madison, and Toomas Kivimägi. Parliamentary groups help the MPs communicate with other national parliaments, carry out Estonia’s foreign policy, and promote our country around the world.
